Swanson (knee) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3, extra-inning win over Atlanta. Swanson was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday night and he made his return to the lineup Tuesday after missing two weeks. The shortstop hit the ground running against his former team, though he's been off to a slow start overall with just a .218 batting average across 38 games. Swanson should still see regular playing time moving forward despite his struggles, and he's talented enough to heat up in a hurry.... See More ... See Less

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Officially activated
Swanson (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday night, per MLB's transaction log. Swanson was expected to be activated prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta, and the team has elected to make the move official a bit earlier than anticipated despite not having a game Monday. Miles Mastrobuoni and Pete Crow-Armstrong were optioned to Triple-A Iowa in corresponding moves, making room for the upcoming promotion of Luis Vazquez.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Expected back Tuesday
The Cubs expect to reinstate Swanson (knee) from the injured list Tuesday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Swanson took live batting practice Friday for the first time since landing on the injured list May 10 with a right knee injury, and he appears to be trending toward a return shortly after the minimum 10 days. He will reclaim his role as Chicago's everyday shortstop once he returns, though the 30-year-old infielder had gone just 1-for-18 with a solo home run in his last six games prior to landing on the IL.... Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Takes live batting practice
Swanson (knee) took live batting practice Friday, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports. Swanson landed on the 10-day injured list a week ago with a right knee injury. He'll be eligible for activation Saturday, but while it appears he is making progress, it seems unlikely that he will be ready at that time. With Nico Hoerner (hamstring) also banged up, the Cubs' shortstop depth has thinned, and Miles Mastrobuoni has started the last three games.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Placed on 10-day IL
Swanson (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 8, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Swanson missed Wednesday's game against the Padres with knee soreness stemming from an awkward slide that occurred April 25, and the injury has now been deemed a right knee sprain. Nico Hoerner slotted in at shortstop Wednesday while Miles Mastrobuoni got the start at second base -- a lineup that could become the norm while Swanson sits. The shortstop will be eligible to return May 18.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Sitting out with sore knee
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Swanson is absent from the lineup versus the Padres due to a right knee issue, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Counsell added that Swanson tweaked the knee on a slide during an April 25 contest against the Astros. He's considered day-to-day. The Cubs have a scheduled off day Thursday, so Swanson will look to return to action Friday in Pittsburgh. Nico Hoerner is sliding over to shortstop Wednesday, while Miles Mastrobuoni is getting a start at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Retreats to bench
Swanson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets. Swanson will get a chance to rest up for the day game after a night game, with Nico Hoerner moving over from second base to replace him at shortstop. The off day comes while Swanson has gone 3-for-17 with eight strikeouts against one walk over his last five games.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Sets tone with home run
Swanson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros. Swanson got the Cubs going early, hitting his big blast with two outs in the first inning to set the tone for the rest of the game. The shortstop, who is up to three home runs now for the season, has been off to a bit of a slow start overall with just a .235 batting average. However, Swanson will continue to see regular playing time, and he should be a strong fantasy asset the rest of the way.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Swipes bag in win
Swanson went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Playing against the team that drafted him first overall back in 2015, Swanson notched his first multi-hit performance in 12 days. The shortstop hasn't really gotten going yet, as he's batting just .235 with two home runs and two stolen bases across 18 games. However, Swanson is at no real risk of losing playing time, and he has the talent to heat up in a hurry.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Goes deep in Friday's win
Swanson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 9-7 win over the Dodgers. Swanson is off to a hot start, as he now has two home runs and a robust 1.100 OPS across seven games. The shortstop got off to a bit of a slow start in his first campaign with the Cubs last year, and while he picked things up a bit, the .744 OPS he finished with was his lowest mark since 2018. It looks like Swanson could be primed for bigger numbers in his second season in Chicago.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Hits first 2024 home run
Swanson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Rangers. Swanson's second-inning blast, his first of the year, ended up being Chicago's only offense in an 11-2 blowout loss. The shortstop has hit 20 or more long balls in each of the last three seasons, and he should be able to reach that plateau again in 2024 assuming he stays healthy. Swanson remains a strong fantasy asset in the middle infield.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Looks ready to go
Swanson, who went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in a Cactus League game against the Mariners on Friday, is now batting .357 this spring. Swanson appears to be in midseason form with his bat, as he's gone 5-for-14 so far with four walks and only four strikeouts. The shortstop batted just .244 in his first season with the Cubs in 2023, though he batted .278 a year earlier with Atlanta, so there is room for improvement in that area. Swanson's other numbers were fairly similar last season, and he reached the 20-homer plateau for the third straight year.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Closes season on bench
Swanson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. Swanson started the last 64 games after his stint on the injured list with a heel issue in July, but he'll receive Sunday off with the Cubs eliminated from playoff contention. The 29-year-old joined Chicago on a seven-year, $177 million contract last December and is set to finish the season with an underwhelming .244/.328/.416 slash line, 22 homers, nine steals, 80 RBI and 81 runs in 147 contests.... Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Launches 22nd home run
Swanson went 2-for-5 with a home run and three total RBI in Thursday's loss to the Pirates. Swanson singled home a run in the seventh inning, then plated two more on a home run in the ninth, his 22nd of the season. The shortstop had 25 long balls last year and a career-best 27 a year before that, so he'll need a strong final nine games of 2023 to reach either of those figures. Swanson has still been a solid contributor for the Cubs as they fight for a playoff spot.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Triples, scores twice Tuesday
Swanson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies. Swanson delivered his fourth straight multi-hit effort and also tallied just his third triple of the season. The shortstop is heating up at the right time as the Cubs look to chase down a playoff spot. Swanson is batting .327 this month with nine runs scored in 13 games.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Leads team to win Sunday
Swanson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Swanson hit a solo home run in the third inning, giving him 20 long balls for the third straight season. The shortstop added an RBI single in the fifth for good measure. While he's not been quite as productive as he was with Atlanta last year, Swanson has still been pretty good in his first season in Chicago. He should remain a key player for the Cubs down the stretch as they look to lock up a playoff spot.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Scores three times in critical win
Swanson went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 11-8 win over the Giants. Swanson played a key role as the Cubs secured a big win over San Francisco, a team they're trying to hold off for a playoff spot. The shortstop is batting a disappointing .246 after hitting .277 for Atlanta last year, though he's still been fairly productive with 19 home runs, 67 runs scored and 70 RBI across 125 games. Swanson should remain an important cog for Chicago's offense down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Hits 19th home run
Swanson went 2-for-4 with a home run and four total RBI in Monday's 8-6 loss to the Tigers. Swanson hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, then drove in two more runs on a single later in the game. The shortstop needs one more long ball to reach 20 homers for the third straight year. Swanson also now has 64 RBI this season, which is still a ways away from the career-high 96 he recorded last year with Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Clubs three-run shot
Swanson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 5-4 win over Toronto. Swanson came up big with a three-run home run off Chris Bassitt in the top of the fourth to put the Cubs up 4-1. The shortstop now has five long balls and 13 RBI in August, though he's batting just .171 for the month and came into Saturday's contest having failed to record a hit in each of his previous four games. He's also struck out 15 times already this month while drawing only two walks.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Hits another home run
Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over Atlanta. Swanson recently had a stretch of three straight games with a home run, and while that run ended, he still has five long balls across his last six contests. The impressive power production has the shortstop up to 17 total home runs, putting him within reach of his third straight season with at least 20 homers.... See More ... See Less
