Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. He'll remain on the bench for a 10th consecutive game while he continues to heal up from a left intercostal strain. Atlanta had initially viewed Riley as day-to-day when he departed an April 12 game against the Mets with the injury, but the club likely would have placed him on the 10-day injured list had they known the issue would have kept him out for more than a week. Riley was able to exhibit a sign of progress by taking swings on the field Tuesday, but it's not clear if he'll be on track to rejoin the starting nine during this weekend's three-game series in Pittsburgh.... Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting again Wednesday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Though Riley took a step forward in his recovery from a left side strain by taking swings Tuesday, he'll remain on the bench for the ninth game in a row Wednesday. Provided he didn't experience any setbacks from Tuesday's activity and is continuing to show daily improvement, Riley still looks like he'll avoid the injured list, and his return to the lineup could happen any day.... Braves' Austin Riley: Remains out of lineup
Riley (intercostal) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs. Riley hasn't played since May 12 because of left intercostal inflammation. Atlanta has resisted putting its third baseman on the 10-day injured list so far, and at this point, it would appear the team will continue to wait things out. He was cleared to take soft swings in the batting cage Tuesday, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com, so Riley at least appears to be making progress in his recovery. Zack Short will again be at the hot corner Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Out again for first game
Riley (side) is not in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Padres. Riley hasn't played in more than a week due to intercostal inflammation in his left side. He hopes to try swinging a bat soon but would appear to be at least a few days away from returning to the lineup. Zack Short will again be at third base for Atlanta in Monday's afternoon tilt.... Braves' Austin Riley: Should swing soon
Riley is out of the lineup against the Padres but hasn't had any issues with his intercostal injury Sunday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley hasn't seen the field since May 12 due to intercostal inflammation but appears to be progressing in his recovery, and he could soon resume taking swings. The 27-year-old may be able to avoid a stint on the injured list but still seems to be at a couple days away from rejoining the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Still sidelined Sunday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. The 27-year-old said Saturday that he's feeling better, but he's still absent from the lineup for a fifth straight game due to left side inflammation. A trip to the injured list has yet to be discussed for the third baseman, but that could change if Riley doesn't show more improvement soon. Zack Short will receive another start at the hot corner Sunday for Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Missing fifth straight
Riley (side) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game versus San Diego. Riley said Saturday that he is feeling better, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but he has yet to resume swinging a bat. The 27-year-old infielder also noted that the team has not talked with him about a potential move to the injured list; however, Riley wouldn't say that he would be back in time for the start of Atlanta's upcoming series with the Cubs on Tuesday. Zack Short, who will start at third base and bat seventh Saturday, has served as Atlanta's third baseman since Riley went down and should continue to do so until the slugger recovers.... See More ... Braves' Austin Riley: Out again Friday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley won't be starting for a fourth consecutive game as he deals with inflammation in his left side. Instead, Zack Short will draw another start at the hot corner and bat ninth. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said that Riley is feeling better but isn't quite ready yet, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. He remains day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting in third straight game
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He'll miss out on a third straight start while he manages left side inflammation, but with the benefit of some added rest in the form of a team off day Thursday, Riley could be healthy enough to rejoin the starting nine for Friday's series opener versus the Padres. Zack Short will make another start at third base in Riley's place Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Remains out Tuesday
Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs. Atlanta received good news when an MRI revealed merely inflammation in Riley's left side rather than a strain. However, he is likely still sore and will miss a second straight start. With a scheduled off day coming Thursday, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Atlanta hold Riley out until Friday just to be safe. Zack Short is getting another start at third base Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: MRI shows inflammation
An MRI revealed that Riley has inflammation in his left side, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The results of Riley's MRI indicate that he'll be able to avoid a trip to the 10-day injured list, though the club will exercise caution to ensure he doesn't make the injury worse. "They'll treat him up tomorrow and see where he's at," said manager Brian Snitker. "The MRI just showing inflammation is a good thing, now it's going to be maintenance and a day-to-day thing."... Braves' Austin Riley: Exits early versus Mets
Riley was removed from Sunday's contest against the Mets in bottom of the fourth inning with left side tightness, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley's removal from the contest has been described as precautionary according to Atlanta. The third baseman finished his night going 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout. Riley's status will likely be updated following the conclusion of the team's series finale with New York.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: On base three times Wednesday
Riley went 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Mariners. That's now five hits in the last four games for Riley, while Wednesday's three-bagger was his first extra-base hit since April 17. The third baseman is slashing a disappointing .235/.311/.387 through 29 contests with two homers and 16 RBI, but he still sports an 89th percentile barrel rate and 85th percentile hard-hit rate on the season, and there's little cause for worry about his slow first month.... Braves' Austin Riley: Could be emerging from slump
Riley posted an exit velocity over 100 mph on three different balls Saturday but failed to get a hit on any of them, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The third baseman did collect two hits Sunday, including a walk-off single in the 10th inning, but for the most part Riley hasn't been getting results of late -- he hasn't homered in 18 straight games, slashing .222/.317/.319 over that stretch with five doubles, a triple and six RBI. Given the way he's swinging the bat, however, it seems only a matter of time before the 27-year-old heats up. Advanced metrics back up the idea that Riley's lack of production is mainly due to bad luck -- he sits in the 90th percentile in barrel rate on the season, right in line with his 2023 (89th percentile) and 2022 (96th percentile) campaigns.... Braves' Austin Riley: Salvages day with late homer
Riley went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. After striking out in two of his first three at-bats, RIley came through for Atlanta with a two-run shot to give the team three runs of cushion heading into the ninth. He hasn't exactly been lighting up the box score in 2024, but Riley has consistently been one of baseball's best bats at the third-base position and should once again push for 30-plus homers.... Braves' Austin Riley: Smacks first homer
Riley went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, four RBI and two runs scored during Monday's 9-0 victory over the White Sox. Riley entered Monday's contest with just one RBI over his first three games but drove in Ozzie Albies with an RBI single in the sixth, then hit a three-run shot to put the icing on the cake for Atlanta in the eighth inning. Riley has topped 30 home runs in each of the last three seasons and has now officially begun his quest for four straight with Monday's initial long ball of the 2024 campaign.... See More ... Braves' Austin Riley: On track for Opening Day
Riley has gone 5-for-20 (.250) over eight Grapefruit League games with a solo home run and a 0:3 BB:K. The 26-year-old third baseman has been getting in his work and looks set to once again hit in the heart of Atlanta's batting order. Riley has averaged 36 homers and 99 RBI over the last three seasons while missing only eight total games, making him one of the most dependable fantasy options available at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Tallies three hits in win
Riley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Cubs. Riley has logged four multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) in that span. The third baseman is up to a .282/.346/.519 slash line with 37 home runs, 96 RBI, 116 runs scored, 30 doubles, three triples and three stolen bases through 156 games this season. He continues to hit in the heart of the order in a near-everyday role.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting for Game 1
Riley is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Washington, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old started the past 14 games after sitting out a couple contests due to an illness in early September, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's matinee after he posted a 1.017 OPS with three homers, 11 RBI and 10 runs during that 14-game stretch. Luke Williams will handle the hot corner in Game 1 with Riley likely to be back in the starting nine for the nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Austin Riley: Racks up four RBI
Riley went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Nationals. Riley blasted a 434-foot, two-run moonshot off Patrick Corbin in the first inning. That wasn't his only production of the night though, as the Atlanta third baseman added two sacrifice flies later in the game. Riley sports a .281/.343/.516 slash line with 37 homers, three steals, 110 runs and 96 RBI this season. The home run total is one off his career high of 38, set last season.... See More ... See Less
