Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. After a stretch of 16 consecutive starts, Brujan is on the bench for the second day in a row and appears set to operate as a utility man moving forward. His most recent nine starts came at shortstop, but Tim Anderson returned from the injured list Tuesday and has reclaimed everyday duties at the position. Meanwhile, Brujan looks to have lost out on playing time at second base to Otto Lopez, who has produced an .886 OPS thus far in May while chipping in two home runs and two stolen bases.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Taking seat Tuesday
Brujan is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Brewers. Brujan had made 16 straight starts, with the last nine of them coming at shortstop while Tim Anderson (back) was out. Anderson has returned to the Marlins' lineup at shortstop Tuesday, and the club is sticking with Otto Lopez at second base while Brujan gets a breather.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Clubs first homer in loss
Brujan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Phillies. Brujan got the scoring started in this one with a leadoff blast off Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was his first home run as a Marlin and just his fourth in 130 major-league games. Brujan also singled and was caught stealing, and he added an additional run after reaching on a fielder's choice. The 26-year-old has become an everyday player for the Marlins over the last two weeks, starting 13 of the last 15 contests. His production has slowed in May, but Brujan has shown enough since getting regular reps to make him a viable deep-league option.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Back on bench Thursday
Brujan is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Brujan had started in five of the previous six games, with the first three coming at third base and the last two coming at shortstop. He had been filling in for Tim Anderson (thumb) the past two days, but Anderson is on track to return to his usual spot at shortstop for the series finale with the Rockies. Brujan looks set to vie with Emmanuel Rivera for playing time at the hot corner moving forward, though both could be headed for reserve roles soon with Jake Burger (oblique) having already initiated a rehab assignment and poised to return from the 10-day injured list in the near future.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Starting at shortstop Wednesday
Brujan will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Brujan had been set to get the day off, but he'll be pressed into the starting nine at shortstop after Tim Anderson (thumb) was scratched from the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Moves to bench Wednesday
Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. With Tim Anderson (thumb) returning to action following a one-game absence, Brujan will head to the bench after filling in as Miami's starting shortstop in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win. Before Tuesday, Brujan had started three of the Marlins' previous four games at third base, and he'll continue to vie with Emmanuel Rivera for playing time at that position until Jake Burger (oblique) returns from the 10-day injured list.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Starting in first game of twin bill
Brujan is starting at shortstop and batting eighth in the first game of the Marlins' doubleheader against the Cubs on Saturday. The switch-hitting Brujan will face off against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Tim Anderson figures to start at shortstop in the second game against Chicago left-hander Shota Imanaga. Brujan has gone just 2-for-20 with one double, one RBI and one run to start the season.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Available off bench
Brujan (knee) is available off the bench for Monday's game against the Giants, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Brujan isn't starting Monday after exiting Sunday's contest with a right knee injury, but it appears he's fine. The utility player is just 2-for-20 so far at the plate this season for Miami.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Dealing with knee injury
Brujan suffered a right knee injury in Sunday's 9-7 loss to Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Brujan was replaced at shortstop by Tim Anderson in the top of the seventh frame after suffering an apparent knee injury in the series finale with Atlanta. Brujan is considered day-to-day ahead of the start of a three-game series at home with the Giants beginning Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Struggling to start season
Brujan went 0-for-3 in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Yankees. The 26-year-old has yet to pick up a hit through 12 at-bats this season, but his versatility should continue to get him spots in the lineup. Brujan is capable of playing all infield positions, and his plus speed allows him to get looks out in the outfield, as well.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Makes 26-man roster
Brujan will begin the season on the Marlins' Opening Day roster. This isn't a surprise, as Brujan is out of minor-league options, and the 26-year-old could become Miami's new speedy super-utility player with Jon Berti now a Yankee. Brujan hit just .219 (7-for-32) in Grapefruit League play and was successful on only one of three steal attempts, a performance which aligns with his career .157/.218/.221 over 272 career big-league plate appearances for the Rays.... Marlins' Vidal Brujan: On track for roster spot
Manager Skip Schumacher indicated Friday that Brujan has "a high likelihood" of winning a spot on the Marlins' initial 26-man roster, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. "He's got a really good chance to make the team," Schumaker said. "He's versatile. He's done enough in Triple-A. He can run. He switch hits. He can do a lot of things for us. I haven't told him that he's made the team or anything like that, but I would anticipate him being part of our club." Brujan was picked up from the Rays in an offseason trade and is out of minor-league options, so him making the Opening Day roster wouldn't be a huge surprise, but it remains to be seen what kind of role the 26-year-old can carve out on a Miami roster that already has Jon Berti entrenched in a utility role and also added Nick Gordon in February.... Rays' Vidal Brujan: Sent back to Durham
Brujan was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Manuel Margot (elbow) is coming off the 10-day injured list in a corresponding roster move. Brujan, 25, has put up intriguing offensive numbers throughout the minors, but he holds a career .157/.218/.221 batting line in 272 plate appearances at the big-league level.... See More ... Rays' Vidal Brujan: Returns to majors
Brujan was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Brujan continues to go back-and-forth between Durham and Tampa Bay but has really struggled during his time in the majors this season with a lowly .461 OPS. He'll provide manager Kevin Cash with some defensive versatility.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Moves back to minors
The Rays optioned Brujan to Triple-A Durham on Sunday. Brujan will head back to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for lefty Jalen Beeks, who was recalled from Durham in a corresponding move to give the Rays a fresh arm out of the bullpen for Sunday's series finale with the Tigers. During his two-week stint with the Rays, Brujan appeared in five games and logged just three at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Recalled from Triple-A
Brujan was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 25-year-old is taking the roster spot vacated by Taylor Walls (oblique) and could see some starts while Walls is out, particularly versus left-handers. Brujan posted a lowly .486 OPS during his time in the big leagues in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Sent down Monday
Brujan was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Monday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. Brujan will head to Tacoma after being called up June 5, batting .176 average with two doubles, two RBI, four runs and two stolen bases over 34 at-bats in 12 games. He'll look to regroup in Triple-A and attempt to earn another promotion later this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Logs pair of steals
Brujan went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two steals in Saturday's loss to Kansas City. Brujan was demoted to the minors in late April after going 5-for-20 (.250) with seven strikeouts and zero extra-base hits but returned to the big leagues on June 5. Saturday's performance was his best since the call-up, posting his first multi-hit effort of the stint while collecting his first two stolen bases of the campaign. Though Brujan is slashing a lowly .227/.261/.250, he'll continue to see semi-regular action as long as Brandon Lowe (back) is on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Called up Monday
The Rays recalled Brujan from Triple-A Durham prior to Monday's game against the Red Sox, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Brujan will return to the Rays after he was sent down May 25, replacing Brandon Lowe (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Over 21 plate appearances with the big club this season, Brujan has produced a .250 average with three RBI and five runs. He'll likely serve as a utility man while he's up with Tampa Bay and may see sporadic playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Vidal Brujan: Sent back to Triple-A
Brujan was optioned to Triple-A Durham by the Rays on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Brujan's latest stint in the majors lasted just one day. The Rays are sending him down in order to bring up a fresh relief arm.... See More ... See Less
