Gilbert remains without a clear timeline for his return from a hamstring strain, but the Mets are hoping he'll be back in the lineup for Triple-A Syracuse by late May or early June, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Senior vice president of player development Andy Green indicated Monday that Gilbert was still strengthening his hamstring, and a return date could come into focus once he begins a running progression. The 23-year-old outfielder hit .240 (6-for-25) through seven games with a home run and a 2:10 BB:K before suffering the injury.... See More ... See Less

Mets' Drew Gilbert: Managing hamstring strain
Gilbert was placed on the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday due to a mild right hamstring strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 23-year-old suffered the injury while running the bases Saturday and will be sidelined for at least the next week, though it's possible he faces a lengthier absence. Gilbert is one of the Mets' top prospects and could make his MLB debut at some point this season with a strong showing at Syracuse.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Drew Gilbert: Shifting to minor-league camp
The Mets reassigned Gilbert to minor-league spring training Sunday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. Gilbert became one of the organization's top prospects after being acquired from the Astros in the Justin Verlander trade last year, and he went 1-for-9 in Grapefruit League play for the Mets this spring. The 23-year-old had a .984 OPS in 35 games at Double-A Binghamton following the trade, and he'll either return there or head to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the 2024 campaign.... See More ... Mets' Drew Gilbert: Will attend big-league camp
Gilbert received an invite to big-league spring training from the Mets, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. Picked up from the Astros in last year's Justin Verlander deal, Gilbert is the top outfield prospect in the Mets' organization and slashed .325/.423/.561 in 149 plate appearances for Double-A Binghamton following the trade. The 23-year-old could open the season at Triple-A and make his major-league debut later in 2024, but he's a long shot to break camp with the big-league club after the Mets added Harrison Bader last month.... Mets' Drew Gilbert: Shipped to Mets in Verlander deal
Gilbert was traded from the Astros to the Mets on Tuesday along with at least one other prospect in exchange for Justin Verlander, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Netting Gilbert in return for Verlander is a nice piece of business for the Mets, as the 22-year-old center fielder is the Astros' best prospect. He dominated at High-A earlier this season (192 wRC+), in part because he was old for the level and playing half his games in the hitter-friendly park in Asheville. Gilbert has been less prolific at Double-A Corpus Christi, slashing .241/.342/.371 with six home runs and six steals, although he has heated up of late, batting .293 with five home runs and a 17.1 percent strikeout rate over his last 99 at-bats. Down the road, Gilbert has a chance to be a leadoff or No. 2 hitter who contributes in all five standard rotisserie categories. He could reach the majors sometime next season.... See More ... Astros' Drew Gilbert: Heating up at Double-A
Gilbert is slashing .282/.364/.513 with two home runs, two steals and a 6:5 K:BB in his last 10 games for Double-A Corpus Christi. Gilbert got off to a rough statistical start at Double-A, but he was still displaying good strike-zone awareness. This recent uptick in power is good to see, as he only homered once in his first 36 games for the Hooks.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Drew Gilbert: Promoted to Double-A
The Astros promoted Gilbert from High-A Asheville to Double-A Corpus Christi on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Gilbert has been red hot with Asheville this season, batting .360 with 15 extra-base hits, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and four stolen bases over 86 at-bats in 21 games. The strong performance at the plate has earned him the opportunity to move up one step closer to the big leagues as Gilbert operates as one of the organization's top prospects.... See More ... Astros' Drew Gilbert: Expected to be ready for season
Houston director of player development Sara Goodrum told reporters Tuesday that Gilbert (elbow) is expected to be ready for the start of the 2023 season, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Gilbert was only able to play 10 games in 2022 after he crashed into the wall in center and dislocated his right elbow. The 26th pick of last year's draft out of Tennessee is considered one of the more advanced players from the 2022 class. He is a prospect that could offer significant fantasy appeal in the coming seasons.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Drew Gilbert: Done for season
Gilbert will miss the remainder of the minor-league season due to a dislocated right elbow, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. He was initially diagnosed with a forearm injury when he crashed into an outfield wall last weekend. During further examination of Gilbert's forearm, doctors discovered the dislocated right elbow, which spontaneously went back into place before he was examined. It's unclear if Gilbert will require surgery, but the Astros' 2022 first-round pick will be shut down after slashing .300/.382/.433 with one home run and six steals in his first nine professional games.... Astros' Drew Gilbert: Carted off field
Gilbert was carted off the field after crashing into the outfield wall while playing for Single-A Fayetteville on Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. The nature of Gilbert's injury is not yet clear, though he was seen wearing a cast on his arm while exiting the field. Given the mode of his exit, it seems as though the injury may be a fairly severe one, but the Astros have yet to specify when he's expected to return.... See More ... See Less
