Busch is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Even with right-hander Sonny Gray taking the mound for the Cardinals on Sunday, the lefty-hitting Busch will begin the series finale in the dugout. Patrick Wisdom will start at first base in Busch's stead and will bat eighth.... See More ... See Less

Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting against southpaw
Busch is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. With a tough southpaw in Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta, the lefty-hitting Busch will retreat to the bench. Patrick Wisdom will replace Busch at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Idle versus lefty
Busch isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates. With lefty Bailey Falter set to start on the mound for the Bucs, the left-handed bat of Busch will remain in Chicago's dugout. His absence will give Patrick Wisdom an opportunity to start at first while batting leadoff.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting against left-hander
Busch is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta. Southpaw Chris Sale is getting the start for Atlanta, so the left-handed hitting Busch will be given a day off. Cody Bellinger will get the start at first base, while Pete Crow-Armstrong will patrol center field.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Taking seat Sunday
Busch is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. The lefty-hitting Busch had started each of the Cubs' first 10 games of May and the Pirates are bringing a lefty (Bailey Falter) to the hill Sunday, so Cubs manager Craig Counsell likely viewed it as an optimal time to give the 26-year-old the day off. Patrick Wisdom will check in for Busch at first base and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Deliver walk-off homer Tuesday
Busch went 2-for-4 with a walk-off solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Padres. Busch's seventh home run of the season was his biggest to date, as he took Enyel De Los Santos deep in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cubs to victory. The slugging first baseman has been solid with an .816 OPS across 35 games, and his seven long balls are second on the team. Busch will likely continue to sit against lefty starters, but he's an impact bat against righties.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Out against left-hander
Busch is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Mets. Southpaw Sean Manaea is on the hill for the Mets, so the left-handed hitting Busch will take a seat. Patrick Wisdom will occupy first base for the Cubs on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Big effort in win
Busch went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Red Sox. Busch has been great so far in his first season with the Cubs, as he's slashing .289/.347/.554 with six home runs and 17 RBI across 24 games. The 26-year-old regularly sits against southpaws, but when a righty is on the mound, Busch looks like a strong fantasy asset at the moment. It helps him that the whole Chicago lineup is clicking during the team's 17-9 start, giving Busch plenty of chances to rack up stats.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting against left-hander
Busch is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Marlins. With southpaw A.J. Puk toeing the slab for the Marlins, the left-handed hitting Busch will receive a day off. Garrett Cooper will handle the first base position for the Cubs on Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Extends homer streak to five
Busch went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks Monday in the Cubs' 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Busch's leadoff blast off Merrill Kelly in the top of the sixth inning extended his home-run streak to five games, tying four other Cubs players for the longest streak in franchise history. Notably, all five of Busch's home runs during the streak have come at road venues, which offers hope that the rookie's power surge can continue once the weather warms up at Wrigley Field, a fertile hitting environment for left-handed batters in recent years. Managers that took a chance on Busch in the later rounds of drafts are relishing in the early returns, as he's provided a .327 average, six home runs, 12 RBI and nine runs through 16 games.... Cubs' Michael Busch: Goes deep in blowout loss
Busch went 1-for-2 with two walks and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 10-2 loss to the Padres. The Cubs were fairly listless, managing just three total hits, and Busch's second home run of the year in the fourth inning provided all of the offense. The 26-year-old has been fairly solid so far in his first season in Chicago, posting an .850 OPS, seven RBI and the two long balls across 12 games. He'll continue to start most days against righty starters.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Doubles, drive in three Sunday
Busch went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 8-1 victory over the Dodgers. Busch has been solid so far for the Cubs, as he now has three extra-base hits across nine games to along with five RBI and an .856 OPS. It looks like he'll play most days when a southpaw isn't on the hill for the opponent, giving him an opportunity to post useful fantasy numbers as long as he keeps swinging a hot bat.... See More ... Cubs' Michael Busch: Tallies three hits Wednesday
Busch went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. Busch entered the contest with only two hits through 13 at-bats, but he broke out of the slump in a big way, pushing his batting average up to .313. The 26-year-old is atop Chicago's depth chart at first base, though he may cede playing time to Garrett Cooper when southpaws are on the mound for the opponent.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Takes seat Tuesday
Busch is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Busch is 2-for-13 with three walks and a run through the first four games of the season, and he'll head to the bench for Tuesday's contest. Garrett Cooper will receive a start at first base, batting seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Settling in at first
Busch, who primarily played second and third base the last few years, said recently he is feeling more comfortable at first, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. Busch is expected to make an impact with his bat, but the Cubs would also like to get solid defense at first base. Manager Craig Counsell noted that Busch's athleticism is helping him make the transition, and the team seems to be happy with what it is seeing so far in camp. If Busch can hold his own at the position, he should be in line for a fairly steady amount of playing time this season.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Michael Busch: Hits first spring home run
Busch went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Reds. Busch took Cincinnati fireballer Hunter Greene deep for his first home run of the spring. The 26-year-old projects to be Chicago's primary option at first base heading into the regular season. Busch has some upside and looked great in the minors last year, though he's yet to get extended run in the majors, so there may be some growing pains as he settles in with the Cubs.... See More ... Cubs' Michael Busch: Likely to play first base
Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said Saturday that while Busch's ultimate position will be up to manager Craig Counsell, he expects the 26-year-old to play first base, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports. "He's certainly going to play. There's no question. It's up to Craig where. I think first base is obviously a natural spot for him. He's played there a lot," Hoyer said at the team's Cubs Convention. Most of Busch's playing time with the Dodgers in 2023 came at third base, and it's possible he could wind up there if the Cubs bring in another first baseman. However, the consensus seems to be that the defensively-challenged Busch fits best at first base. If Busch is indeed confined to first, it puts a damper on Matt Mervis' dynasty outlook.... Cubs' Michael Busch: Dealt to Cubs
Busch was traded from the Dodgers to the Cubs along with Yency Almonte on Thursday in exchange for two unknown minor leaguers, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. Busch, who fits best at first base or designated hitter, was never going to get an extended run at those positions in Los Angeles, so this boosts his fantasy value. He is currently the favorite to beat out Matt Mervis for the starting first base job, but the Cubs aren't necessarily done making moves -- they have been linked to free agent Rhys Hoskins. Busch is already 26 and needed to repeat Triple-A to master the level (102 wRC+ as a 24-year-old in 2022, 150 wRC+ as a 25-year-old in 2023), so he could still end up being a Quad-A bat when it's all said and done. The lefty-hitting slugger will be eligible at third base to start the year. With righties Patrick Wisdom, Christopher Morel and Alexander Canario all still on the roster, it's possible Busch will sit against lefties.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Busch: Sent back to OKC
The Dodgers optioned Busch to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Busch slashed .111/.167/.333 across 30 plate appearances during his latest two-week stay on the major-league roster. J.D. Martinez (groin) is returning from the injured list in a corresponding move ahead of Friday's series opener against the Nationals.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Busch: Goes deep in loss
Busch went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a loss to Atlanta. Busch hit one of four Dodgers long balls in the contest, launching his to right field in the seventh inning. It was his second homer since being recalled from the minors Aug. 22, but just his third hit. Busch has struggled since the promotion, slashing .130/.192/.391 with eight strikeouts over 26 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Meghan Montemurro@M_Montemurro36M agoThe Cubs' 5 runs in the 10th tonight vs. MIL are their most in an inning since May 11 when they tallied 7 runs in 5th at the Pirates, who walked in six of them in that frame. In the 14 games between then, the Cubs had only four innings in which they scored more than two runs.

Meghan Montemurro@M_Montemurro1H agoDown to Brewers' last strike, Willy Adames gets enough of Héctor Neris' splitter to tie game in 9th. He's thrown out going to 2B, on to extras. Cubs' wasted opportunities with runners in scoring position loom again in a 1-1 game. Twice had bases loaded tonight and got nothing.

Meghan Montemurro@M_Montemurro1H agoSince Ben Brown allowed 6 runs in 1.2 IP in his MLB debut March 30, the Cubs rookie has allowed only 8 runs in 44.2 IP (1.61 ERA). And in that span, Brown has given up 1 run or less in 10 of his 12 outings.
