  • Astros' Ronel Blanco: Falls to St. Louis

Blanco (5-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

Blanco held St. Louis to one run through his first four frames before surrendering three runs between the fifth and sixth innings. After starting the year 5-0, Blanco's now dropped back-to-back starts while allowing eight runs across 9.1 innings in that span. The 30-year-old right-hander still sports a solid 2.78 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 59:27 K:BB across 11 starts (64.2 innings) this year. Blanco will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in San Francisco.

  • Astros' Ronel Blanco: Suffers first loss

Blanco (5-1) took the loss Friday against Minnesota, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

Blanco faced 20 batters, marking a season low, not including his May 14 start against Oakland when he was ejected after three innings for a foreign substance. The Houston right-hander also yielded a season-high four runs, pushing his ERA up to 2.44 overall in 59 innings. Blanco is tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Cardinals at home next week.

  • Astros' Ronel Blanco: Improves to 5-0

Blanco (5-0) allowed a run on four hits and a walk over seven innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Athletics.

Blanco fired five scoreless frames before coughing up a solo shot to Max Schuemann in the sixth inning. It was Blanco's first start since May 14 after serving a suspension for using a foreign substance. He forced 17 swinging strikes, including seven with his slider. It was the third time in nine starts that he's reached that number. Blanco lowered his ERA to a stellar 1.99 with a 51:22 K:BB through 54.1 frames. His next start is projected to be at home against the Twins.

  • Astros' Ronel Blanco: Back from suspension, starting Sunday

Blanco (suspension) was reinstated to the Astros' 26-man active roster Sunday and will start Houston's series finale versus the Athletics in Oakland.

As had been reported days earlier, Blanco will immediately slot back into the Houston rotation now that he's completed his 10-game ban after he was deemed to have used a foreign substance during his most recent start May 14, also versus Oakland. Assuming Blanco was able to stay fully ramped up while he was serving his suspension, he shouldn't face many restrictions when he takes the hill Sunday. Blanco has been a revelation for the Astros this season, compiling a 4-0 record, 2.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB in 47.1 innings across eight starts.
