| What is the Chase? |
|
The top 12 drivers in the point standings after 26 races compete for the Sprint Cup championship during the final 10 races.
Before Race 27, the points are reset to 5,000 for all 12 drivers who qualified for the Chase. An additional 10-point bonus is awarded for each victory a Chase driver had during the first 26 races. Therefore, a driver can conceivably finish 12th at the end of 26 races, but begin the Chase with the points lead if he has the most victories.
No additional bonus is awarded for victories by Chase drivers during the final 10 races.
If at the end of the final 10 races there is a tie, the first tiebreaker is number of wins, then number of second-place finishes, then number of thirds, etc.
