Anderson, Sampey set records in respective NHRA divisions

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Greg Anderson and Angelle Sampey used record performances to top qualifying Saturday in the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

Larry Dixon and Robert Hight also earned No. 1 qualifying positions at the third of 23 events in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

Anderson had the first Pro Stock run in excess of 210 mph when he blasted to 211.20 mph in his Pontiac GTO, while Sampey equaled the quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle run with her 6.911-second run on a Suzuki. It was Anderson's 53rd career No. 1, and the 40th for Sampey.

Two-time Top Fuel world champ Dixon powered his dragster to a 4.510 at 331.53 to earn his 27th career No. 1 qualifying position, and first since July 2005.

Hight's quick run in John Force-owned Ford Mustang, a performance of 4.686 at 331.94 mph, was the quickest and fastest Funny Car run in track history. Force ended up 10th with a 4.802 in his Ford Mustang, while daughter Ashley qualified 13th with a 4.822. Once retired Kenny Bernstein also qualified for the first time in his comeback tour, posting a 4.840 at 314.39.
