Odds and ends

The original configuration of Homestead-Miami Speedway was a four-turn, rectangular oval based on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's layout.

In the summer of 1997, a reconfiguration project changed the turns from a quad-oval to a traditional, continuous-turn oval. The track was reconfigured again prior to the 2003 race. The banking in the turns was changed to a graduated tri-level culminating in a 20-degree banking on the outer level. Lights were also added for night racing.

2002 was the first season of the Championship Weekend at Homestead, with all three of NASCAR’s national series holding their season finale at the same track.

There have been nine Cup races at Homestead-Miami Speedway, one per season since 1999.

Seven drivers have competed in all nine Homestead races: Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Mark Martin, Elliott Sadler and Tony Stewart.

David Green won the first pole at Homestead, while Stewart won the inaugural race.

There have been eight different pole winners at Homestead, led by Kurt Busch with two. He is the only repeat pole winner at the track.

There have been six different race winners at Homestead, led by Greg Biffle with three.

Jack Roush has won five races at Homestead, more than any other car owner.

Homestead has been won from the pole twice: Bill Elliott (2001) and Busch (2002).

Homestead has been won from a top-10 starting position seven of nine times.

Biffle won in 2006 from the 22nd starting position, the furthest back a race winner has started at Homestead.

Biffle won three consecutive races at Homestead from 2004-2006, the first back-to-back winner at the track since Stewart won the first two Homestead races. Those are his only top-10 finishes at Homestead.

There have been two green-white-checkered races: 2004 (271 laps) and 2006 (268)
