Updated Dec. 18
INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2009 IndyCar schedule will feature 10 oval races, three permanent road courses and four temporary street circuits.
Originally the series was set for five street circuits, but on Dec. 18 the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix was canceled because of economic problems in Michigan. The race had been scheduled for Sept. 6.
The IRL will hold the Streets of Toronto race on July 12. It will make up for the loss of the Nashville event, which was dropped after efforts to negotiate an agreement for a 2009 race there failed.
Homestead-Miami Speedway, which had opened the IndyCar season since 2002, will instead host the season finale. The season opener will remain in Florida, though, with the street race at St. Petersburg.
The Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan, where Danica Patrick captured her first victory, will shift to Sept. 19 after running in April since 2003.
The 93rd Indianapolis 500 will be May 24.
