Former champ Adams scores TKO win in Vegas bout

LAS VEGAS -- Former world champion Clarence Adams stopped Alex Baba in the eighth round of their super featherweight fight Friday night at the Palms Casino Resort.

The 34-year-old Adams, fighting for the first time in a year and only the fourth time since 2003, was sharp and opened a cut over Baba's right eye in the fifth. Adams pounded Baba the rest of the way until the one-sided bout was stopped at 1:02 of the eighth. Adams led by scores of 70-63 on all three judges' scorecards through seven rounds.

Adams, the WBA super-bantamweight champion in 2000 and 2001, improved to 44-6-4 with his 20th knockout. The 38-year-old Baba dropped to 26-16-1.
