Lock defeats Baba for junior featherweight championship

LAS VEGAS -- Cornelius Lock captured the vacant International Boxing Association Continental junior featherweight title with an 11th-round technical decision over Alexander Baba on Friday night.

Lock (14-2-1, 10 knockouts) won when the referee halted the bout at the Orleans Hotel and Casino because of a cut over the right eye over Baba. The cut was the result of an accidental head butt in the third. The cut worsened to the point where Baba couldn't continue.

The 26-year-old Lock, 122 pounds, was leading 109-100 on one judge's score card, and 108-101 on the other two judges' cards when the bout was halted.

There were no knockdowns.

The 34-year-old Baba, 121½ pounds, has a record of 21-7 with 16 knockouts.
