CBS Sports to broadcast first PGA Tour playoff event for the FedExCup as World's best golfers tee off at "The Barclays" August 23-24
CBS and PGA Tour offer online simulcast of final rounds of "The Barclays" for first time
The PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup tees off this week at "The Barclays," the first of four playoff tournaments to determine the FedExCup champion. CBS Sports broadcasts the third and final rounds of the star-powered tournament on Saturday, Aug. 23 (3-6 p.m., ET) and Sunday, Aug. 24 (2-6 p.m., ET), from Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., live on the CBS Television Network.
For the first time, CBS and the PGA Tour will offer an online simulcast of tournament competition for the final rounds of The Barclays on Saturday and Sunday. The simulcast will be available on PGA Tour.com, CBSSports.com and via wireless on "CBS Sports Mobile."
Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo, CBS Sports' golf anchor and lead analyst, respectively, provide commentary from the 18th hole tower. Peter Oosterhuis calls the action at the 17th hole; Gary McCord at the 16th hole; and Ian Baker-Finch at the 15th hole. David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.
Steve Stricker returns to "The Barclays" to defend his 2007 victory in the inaugural PGA TOUR Playoffs event. Stricker edged K.J. Choi by two strokes at Westchester Country Club and went on to finish second in the final FedExCup standings behind Tiger Woods.
The top 144 players from the PGA TOUR regular season based on FedExCup points earned an invitation to The Barclays and 136 are playing. Sixteen players will be eliminated after this weekend. In addition to Stricker and Choi, among the players expected to compete in this week’s playoff, in order of points standings, are: Kenny Perry, Phil Mickelson, 2008 British Open and PGA Championship winner Padraig Harrington, Anthony Kim, Stewart Cink, Vijay Singh, Justin Leonard, Ryuji Imada, Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby, Sergio Garcia, Carl Pettersson, Boo Weekley, Jim Furyk, Sean O'Hair, D.J. Trahan, Stuart Appleby, 2008 Masters winner Trevor Immelman, J.B. Holmes, Chad Campbell, Adam Scott, Andres Romero, Ernie Els, Briny Baird, Stephen Ames, Rod Pampling, Woody Austin, Chez Reavie, Camilo Villegas, Mike Weir, Aaron Baddeley, Brandt Snedeker, Rory Sabbatini, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Rocco Mediate, Ian Poulter, Paul Goydos, Scott McCarron, Charles Howell III, Corey Pavin, Fred Couples, Mark Calcavecchia and Zach Johnson.
The other tournaments hosting the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup are the Deutsche Bank Championship (narrowed to a field of 120 players), the BMW Championship (70 players) and the season-ending Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola (30 players).
