CBS SPORTS SERVES UP 39th CONSECUTIVE U.S. OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Women’s Final of 2006 U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Prime Time on September 9 Highlights CBS Sports’ “Super Saturday” Coverage
More than 40 Hours of U.S. Open Coverage Scheduled Including Men’s Final on Sunday, September 10 Live on The CBS Television Network
CBS Sports to Broadcast U.S. Open in HDTV for Eighth Consecutive Year
For the 39th consecutive year, CBS Sports presents THE U.S. OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS, tennis’ final grand slam of the year and the only one played in the United States, beginning on Monday, Aug. 28 with U.S. OPEN LATE NIGHT SHOW sponsored by American Express (12:37-1:07 AM, ET/PT) and concluding with the men’s singles final 13 days later, on Sunday, Sept. 10 (4:00-7:00 PM, ET). CBS Sports will broadcast more than 40 hours of the 2006 U.S. Open from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Lead play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg will be joined by expert analysts Mary Carillo and John McEnroe in the booth for the sixth consecutive year. Ian Eagle also will call tennis action for CBS Sports, with Pam Shriver as analyst. Shriver, along with Mary Joe Fernandez, also will serve as a reporter. Bill Macatee and Patrick McEnroe will host the weekend studio coverage.
CBS Sports will provide live comprehensive coverage during both weekends of the event and on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4 (11:00 AM-6:00 PM, ET) and on Friday, Sept. 8 (11:00 AM-6:00 PM, ET). The 2006 women’s final live in prime time highlights the Network’s “Super Saturday” coverage on Saturday, Sept. 9 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET).
U.S. OPEN LATE NIGHT SHOW will be broadcast every weeknight of the tournament -- Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Sept. 8 (12:37-1:07 AM, ET; both weeks) -- recapping each day’s important matches and stories. Pat O’Brien will host U.S. OPEN LATE NIGHT SHOW with Patrick McEnroe serving as analyst and Tracy Wolfson serving as reporter.
CBS Sports will broadcast the 2006 U.S. Open Tennis Championships in HDTV for the eighth consecutive year. For the fifth straight year CBS Sports’ entire live broadcast -- Saturday, Sept. 2 through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 4 and again Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10 -- will be broadcast in HDTV. The HD coverage includes all the action from Center Court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, as well as play from Louis Armstrong Stadium.
In all, CBS will broadcast nearly 40 hours of U.S. Open coverage in HDTV. CBS Sports' U.S. Open Tennis Championships HDTV broadcasts will feature the highest definition television format -- 1080 lines of picture resolution -- and 5.1 digital audio. The unified productions for the Standard Definition and HD telecasts will feature the same announcers, camera angles, replays and graphics.

For the 11th consecutive year, CBS Sports will broadcast ARTHUR ASHE KIDS’ DAY PRESENTED BY HESS on Sunday, Aug. 27 (1:00 - 2:30 PM, ET).
Working his 26th U.S. Open, Bob Mansbach will serve as coordinating producer of CBS Sports’ live coverage of tennis’ final grand slam of the year. Mansbach and David Winner will produce, and Bob Fishman will direct. Ken Mack will produce U.S. OPEN LATE NIGHT SHOW and Cathy Barreto will direct. Mansbach and Mack will produce ARTHUR ASHE KIDS’ DAY, and Barreto will direct.
