Super Bowl XLI Weekend
HOLLYWOOD, FLORDIA - The second annual Pat Summerall Award, created by Ocean 2 Ocean Productions, Inc. will be presented to CBS broadcaster Greg Gumbel on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Legends for Charity® Luncheon which will be held at the NFL Headquarters Hotel, The Radisson - Miami. This prestigious award is given annually during Super Bowl Weekend to a deserving recipient who through their career has demonstrated the character, integrity and leadership both on and off the job that the name Pat Summerall represents.
Greg Gumbel will be honored not only for his outstanding career as one of sports' premier broadcasters, but also for his significant role in reaching out to help make a difference for so many others through his extensive and ongoing commitments to a variety of community and national causes.
The luncheon at Super Bowl XLI will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. Stanford Financial has signed on as the Title Sponsor of the luncheon. Supporting Sponsors include CBS Sports, NCAA, The NFL Network, The Weidenfeld Financial Group at Raymond James & Associates, Inc. and Loras College, Greg Gumbel's Alma Mata. Eight-time Emmy Award Winner Armen Keteyian, Chief Investigative Correspondent of CBS News will serve as the Emcee. Lesley Visser, CBS Sports and the first woman honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be a guest speaker.
The Legends for Charity® event has all the components of a high-end celebrity function while at the same time allowing the general public an opportunity to participate in an affordable Super Bowl party. The Honorary Committee that supports this award consists of top sports and network executives including Greg Aiello (NFL) Tony Petitti (CBS) Dick Ebersol (NBC), Lou D'Ermilio (FOX), Steve Sabol (NFL Films) Sandy Montag (IMG) and on-air talent Jim Nantz (CBS) Lesley Visser (CBS), and John Madden (NBC).
For the fifth consecutive year, Ocean 2 Ocean Productions will produce the Legends for Charity Luncheon during Super Bowl Weekend. Cheryl DeLeonardis, the event producer, began her involvement in Super Bowl fund-raising activities in San Diego during Super Bowl XXXVII. Her event during Super Bowl XXXIX honored the career of Pat Summerall and in 2005 she created the award in Summerall's name beginning a new tradition during the biggest weekend in Sports. Her creative ability to produce a high-end program filled with video tributes and guest speakers including top on-air talent from CBS Sports, FOX Sports and ESPN is unparalleled in the industry.
