Former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins joins CBS Sports for selected weeks throughout the NFL season as a contributing analyst for the Network's NFL studio show, THE NFL TODAY, and CBS Sports-produced INSIDE THE NFL ON SHOWTIME. The announcement was made today by Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports and Executive Producer, THE NFL ON CBS.

His first appearance is scheduled for Week 2 on THE NFL TODAY.

"We are always looking for ways to include the latest players' perspectives to our coverage," said McManus. "Kris gives us a recent player's, as well as a defensive lineman's, perspective. We have no doubt that he'll be able to mix it up alongside JB, Dan, Bill, Shannon and Boomer."

Jenkins, who played seven seasons for Carolina and three for the New York Jets, was a three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection during his 10-year career. He was a second-round pick by the Panthers in the 2001 NFL Draft and quickly became an integral part of a talented defensive line that helped lead Carolina to Super Bowl XXXVIII against the New England Patriots in 2004.

An avid cook, Jenkins' culinary skills have landed him spots on national cooking shows including celebrity appearances on the Food Network. Additionally, he is an active community leader involved in various charitable endeavors. Specifically, Jenkins has volunteered his time towards Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City and currently serves as the national spokesperson for Life Pieces to Masterpieces, a non-profit, arts-based organization that helps at-risk youth in Washington D.C. Jenkins also was recently featured in a PSA to support New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Million Trees Campaign and he has also launched his own Scholarship Fund at his alma mater, the University of Maryland.

While at the University of Maryland, Jenkins was a three-year starter on the football team and earned second team All-ACC recognition as a senior while majoring in kinesiology. He was born on August 3, 1979 in Ypsilanti, Mich. His younger brother, Cullen, is currently a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles. Kris and his wife, Tashia, reside in West Orange, N.J. with their three children: Kris, Jr., Marcus and Jesse.
