Former NBA coach Avery Johnson has reached an agreement in principle to coach the Alabama Crimson Tide, a source told CBSSports.com on Sunday afternoon.
A formal announcement is expected soon.
Alabama initially targeted Wichita State's Gregg Marshall to replace Anthony Grant.
Johnson, 50, is currently an analyst for ESPN. He played in the NBA for 16 seasons, then coached the Mavericks and Nets. He was the 2006 NBA Coach of the Year.
