Arizona State transfer Evan Gordon heading to Indiana
Indiana picked up a major perimeter boost on Wednesday, as Evan Gordon will provide scoring and experience.
As soon as Evan Gordon announced last week he was transferring from Arizona State, rumors surfaced almost immediately that he would be heading to Indiana. After all, Gordon is a native of Indianapolis and the younger brother of former Indiana and current New Orleans Pelicans star Eric Gordon.
Evan Gordon ended up visiting Indiana and Butler before deciding, and he made his choice Wednesday morning.
“There’s nothing like an Indiana kid playing for IU,” Gordon told the Indianapolis Star. “Coach [Tom] Crean has that program rocking and rolling.”
Gordon, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 10.1 points this past season for the Sun Devils. Since he already has graduated, he will be able to play immediately for Indiana, giving the Hoosiers a major boost on the perimeter.
It’s a needed boost, too, as Crean is bidding farewell to four starters (Cody Zeller, Victor Oladipo, Christian Watford, Jordan Hulls) and two bench players, Remy Abell and Maurice Creek. There is plenty of talent in Bloomington, but it’s mostly unproven -- outside of Yogi Ferrell and Will Sheehey. Gordon provides some experience and backcourt scoring.
