A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about future plans for Indiana’s Assembly Hall, including renovations and improvements.

On Thursday, we found out one of the major steps: Assembly Hall will be renamed the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The arena is being named after Cindy Simon Skjodt, an alumna who donated $40 million to the school.

The renovations for Assembly Hall are scheduled to be finished in 2016, and that’s when the renaming will take place.

Simon Skjodt’s donation is the largest gift in the history of Indiana athletic, and will be used for the renovations.

"I grew up going to Indiana University games and have great memories of watching basketball games with my father,” Simon Skjodt said in a school release, according to the Indianapolis Star. “The atmosphere in Assembly Hall is truly unmatched anywhere in college basketball.''

Assembly Hall was opened in 1971, and has been the home of Indiana men’s and women’s basketball.
