Billy Donovan hoping to get Yeguete back, be full-strength Saturday
Florida coach Billy Donovan is hopeful to be at full-strength this weekend when the Gators face Alabama. Casey Prather will play for certain, Michael Frazier is expected to return and Donovan is hopeful that Will Yeguete will also come back after missing the last six games.
Billy Donovan is hoping to get underrated reserve forward Will Yeguete back Saturday against Alabama -- and expects to have both Casey Prather and Michael Frazier back on the court as well against the Crimson Tide.
Florida's head man told CBSSports.com that Prather's injury, suffered in the second half of the loss to Tennessee, was not a concussion and that he'll be fine for Saturday. Donovan also said that Frazier suffered a concussion against Arkansas, but should be able to practice on Thursday without contact and is expected to be cleared to play against Alabama.
Yeguete's return appears more uncertain, but it sounds as if he'll come back this weekend or against Vanderbilt next Wednesday. The 6-foot-7 forward, who is a terrific defender and rebounder for the Gators, has been running, cutting and shooting -- but hasn't practiced with contact yet.
"He'll do a little more tomorrow [Thursday] and we'll see whether he can play Saturday. We should know Friday whether he has a realistic chance."
Donovan said Yeguete's knee has almost completely healed after surgery on Feb. 8, but that they want to be careful and make certain he doesn't reaggravate the injury.
"We have to watch him and not push him too quickly," Donovan said.
Donovan needs Yeguete desperately, but both Prather and Frazier have also given the Gators key production of late. Prather had 12 points in the win earlier this month against Kentucky and Frazier went for 18 in a win over Auburn.
