California coach Mike Montgomery is mulling retirement and could decide to end his career as early as Monday, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com on Sunday.

ESPN.com earlier reported tht Cal has already "sought out the help of a search firm and has investigated the possibility of successors." Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour is scheduled to meet with Montgomery on Monday, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com.

Montgomery, 67, just completed his sixth season at California after previous stops at Stanford, Montana and with the Golden State Warriors. The Bears were 21-14 this season, 10-8 in the Pac-12. They lost to SMU in the NIT quarterfinals.
