CBSSports.com Player of the Week: Virginia's Malcolm Brogdon
Virginia is now ranked fifth in the AP poll thanks to two wins last week in which Malcolm Brogdon averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
I'm a fan of acknowledging players who do nice things for relevant teams.
That's the criteria.
Did you do nice things over the past week?
Did your team do nice things because of you?
Which brings me to Virginia sophomore Malcolm Brogdon.
The 6-foot-5 guard is the CBSSports.com National Player of the Week this week because he checks both boxes. He averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games, meaning he did nice things. And his team beat Miami and Syracuse to clinch the ACC's regular-season title, meaning his team did nice things because of him.
"It's surreal when you think about it," Brogdon told reporters after Saturday's historic win, and it really must be for this Georgia native who wasn't even a top-100 prospect coming out of high school. But that's the past. The present has Brogdon as the leading scorer on a team now ranked fifth in the Associated Press poll and sixth in the Top 25 (and one).
