Ex-UCLA commit Al Freeman is off the board to Baylor
Baylor nabbed top-100 guard Al Freeman on Tuesday afternoon.
It’s not Andrew Wiggins, but the best remaining guard in the class of 2013 made his commitment on Tuesday afternoon.
Freeman is ranked No. 64 in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He’s a powerful scoring guard who has improved his defense and ball-handling ability over the past season. Freeman has good strength and a solid upper body that enables him to finish through contact at the rim. He’s also capable of guarding multiple positions on the perimeter and can knock down shots at the other end.
It’s been nothing but good news lately for Baylor. Big men Cory Jefferson and Isaiah Austin decided two weeks ago to return to the Bears for another season in college, and now Freeman gives Scott Drew an impact guard. He’s the third top-100 prospect in Baylor’s 2013 class, joining forward Ishmail Wainright and center Dominic Woodson. Brady Heslip is also back as a starter, and Rico Gathers, Gary Franklin and Deuce Bello were consistent members of the rotation.
The losses of Pierre Jackson and A.J. Walton will hurt, but Baylor will be able to build next season off its NIT championship.
