There are few things the internet -- and the people of planet Earth -- love more than Bill Murray.

The man has long lived a blessed existence, but he’s now become a good-luck sports charm, to an extent. As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Murray’s tag-along role last fall was a storyline that ran alongside that epic 2016 World Series title.

Now with Xavier in the Elite Eight, Murray’s on TV frequently yet again. His son, Luke, is an assistant at Xavier, as you most likely know. What you might not realize: Luke is going to be a head coach at a D-I program eventually, so Bill’s going to be a college basketball mainstay. Luke’s a really good basketball coach; he’ll get his shot soon enough. His dad obviously attracts all this attention, but beyond the “haha Bill Murray again!” side of it, it’s a really cool thing to see Bill attend these games and support his son’s team in a genuine way.

I mean, look at this face. Look how happy Bill was on Thursday night.

Xavier’s got another good luck charm: Sister Rose Ann Fleming, a nun that travels with the team and has become a beloved figure locally as well. After Xavier pulled off the comeback win against Arizona, Murray messed up Rose’s hair. Let’s get even more of Sister Rose on the tube.

Because Xavier’s an 11 seed, a team that’s never made a Final Four, we’ve got the internet doing the expected: linking Murray’s famous monologue from Caddyshack and splicing it between Musketeer highlights.

There are a dozen reasons why Xavier’s run to the Elite Eight is a great March story. Bill Murray’s presence is merely a bonus. But it’s undeniable that he’s been a bonus to the tournament experience this year. The TV cutaways during Gonzaga-Xavier on Saturday night will be great. More Bill Murray, more Xavier, please.
