Five-star junior Teki Gill-Caesar still deciding whether to reclassify
Teki Gill-Caesar would immediately be one of the top five players remaining in 2014 should he decide to reclassify from 2015. But will he?
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – With the number of high-level players from the class of 2014 drastically dwindling during the early signing period, only a handful of top-100 caliber players are still on the board.
One player who could join that group is someone who isn’t even in the senior class: Montaque Gill-Caesar.
The rumors and stories of Gill-Caesar potentially reclassifying from the class of 2015 have been going around for months, and he has no signs of ending the talk anytime soon.
“I’m still thinking about it,” Gill-Caesar said at the Hoop Hall Classic. “It’s up in the air right now. I have no definite timetable or anything of when I’m going to be making a decision.”
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Huntington Prep (W.Va.) is ranked No. 21 in the class of 2015, according to the 247Sports Composite. His status as a five-star prospect in the junior class is something that could change if he were to move into 2014.
Not that he’s shying away from it.
“It would just be a hype thing,” Gill-Caesar said. “In 2015, I would have more hype around me. Going in 2014, I would have to build up a reputation because they kind of have all their guys set up already, so I would have prove myself.”
He’s visited Kentucky and West Virginia.
“I like the atmosphere [at Kentucky],” Gill-Caesar said. “It’s crazy. All the fans are behind the players, regardless of whether they’re playing good or bad. West Virginia, the fans are crazy.”
While there have been reports that Kentucky would be the leader should Gill-Caesar decide to reclassify from 2015 into 2014, he wouldn’t confirm or deny it.
“I don’t know, actually,” he said. “I possibly wouldn’t have any leader.”
The Canada native was solid in Huntington’s win over Prime Prep (Texas) on Saturday night. He was effective in the mid-range, utilizing pull-up jumpers and floaters once he got by his defender. He has good size for the wing, and was solid defensively and on the glass. Gill-Caesar would immediately be one of the top five available players in the class of 2014 should he decide to reclassify.
