Florida St. frosh Xavier Rathan-Mayes ineligible for 2013-14 season
Florida State suffered a major blow on Monday, when the NCAA ruled four-star freshman Xavier Rathan-Mayes was ineligible for the season.
Florida State freshman Xavier Rathan-Mayes will not be eligible for the upcoming season, head coach Leonard Hamilton announced Monday.
Hamilton said Rathan-Mayes did not get through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Sources tell CBSSports.com that the NCAA did not accept a full year of credits he took at a high school in North Carolina. Rathan-Mayes previously attended Christian Faith Center Academy (N.C.). Florida State is continuing to work with the NCAA to get the issue resolved.
Rathan-Mayes, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Canada, played last season at Huntington Prep (W.Va.). He was a consensus top-50 recruit and was expected to be the key perimeter option for the Seminoles in 2013-14.
