Georgetown dismisses Greg Whittington from program

Greg Whittington has been dismissed from the Georgetown basketball program, the school announced early Saturday without further explanation.

Whittington played in 33 games as a freshman and 13 more as a sophomore before being ruled academically ineligible. The 6-foot-8 forward was expected to return to the Hoyas this season, but a torn ACL suffered in his left knee in June derailed that plan. Now, presumably, Whittington is done at Georgetown. He'll likely be one of the nation's most sought-after transfers given that he averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season.

Georgetown is 3-2 this season.

The Hoyas play Lipscomb on Saturday at the Verizon Center.
