Iowa Hawkeyes hoops great Roy Marble dead from cancer at 48
Roy Marble is one of the all-time greats in Big Ten basketball history

One of the best players in the history of Iowa basketball has died at 48. The University of Iowa announced on Friday that Roy Marble passed Friday morning at his Michigan home.
Marble was with the program from 1986-89, totaling 2,116 points. He's still the only player in school history to eclipse the 2K mark. Marble also tallied 668 rebounds and 281 assists while helping take Iowa to the NCAA Tournament in all his years on campus. Iowa made the Elite Eight in 1987.
Current Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said in a statement, "Roy has been a part of the Iowa basketball family for a long time, as one of the all-time best to play for the Hawkeyes, and since then as a tremendous supporter of our program. When I was fortunate to become Iowa's head coach, one of the first people to reach out to me was Roy and we developed a close relationship ever since."
Marble spent two seasons in the NBA; he was drafted No. 23 by the Atlanta Hawks in 1989. Marble's son, Roy Devyn Marble, recently achieved his degree after playing four seasons for the Hawkeyes. The younger Marble played for the Orlando Magic last season.
For Iowa, it's a week of sadness, as a beloved former football player -- 27-year-old Tyler Sash -- was found dead in his home on Tuesday.
We lost a Hawkeye legend today as we mourn the passing of Roy Marble. Our prayers are with his family at this time." pic.twitter.com/CKfn1T6uXx
