Isaiah Austin: Kentucky 'not better than us in any way, shape or form'
The Baylor Bears center is proud of his team and not afraid whatsoever to go up against Kentucky Friday night.
We've got a really good Friday game on tap tonight in Dallas. Kentucky and Baylor are playing at AT&T Stadium, home of the Cowboys, and it stands to be one of the best games of December.
And why not add even more intrigue with some trash-talk in the lead-up to the game? Baylor sophomore big man Isaiah Austin told the Dallas Morning News that he's not only not scared of UK, but in fact the Wildcats don't really have any advantages on Baylor.
Austin decided between Kentucky and Baylor a couple of years back. He chose the Bears, and now he's boasting on their behalf.
“Coming out of high school, everyone wants to go with the hype,” he said. “Kentucky was the hype. … I made the best decision for me coming here. Coach [Scott] Drew is just as great a coach as coach [John] Calipari. We have just as great as faculty and staff. … Kentucky is not better than us in any way, shape or form.”
Personally, I love it, because players need this kind of mentality when going up against UK. It runs against what John Calipari preaches to his team: that every time Kentucky plays someone, it's "their Super Bowl." Austin is saying, "No, it isn't."
Regardless, this will be fun. And these words will find their way to Kentucky's ears. Let's see what they plan on doing about it. Baylor won in Lexington last year, ending UK's 54-game home winning streak. And in 2012, in the Elite Eight, UK knocked off the Bears en route to the national title.
