Joel Embiid could be sidelined with knee, back injuries
Kansas star freshman Joel Embiid could miss games to rest his injured knee and back.
Joel Embiid hasn't played more than 18 minutes in any of his last three games. While the first two could be attributed to foul trouble, Monday night's game against Kansas State was something different.
According to the Kansas City Star, the Kansas freshman was bothered by a sprained knee and a back injury that have occurred over the last few weeks.
Embiid might have to miss time to rest.
“I don’t know,” head coach Bill Self told reporters. “We’re going to re-evaluate. We’ve known since last week that we were just going to try to get through [Kansas State on Monday]. There’s nothing structurally that he’s dealing with, but he’s beat up, obviously. His body has taken a toll here the last two or three weeks.”
Embiid, a 7-foot center, has emerged as one of the best big men in the country and a potential No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft. He had just six points and six rebounds in 18 minutes on Monday night, as Kansas lost 85-82 in the Sunflower Showdown.
Kansas faces TCU and Texas Tech in its next two games.
