Kentucky's Karl Towns has been named the Gatorade High School Male Athlete of the Year, becoming the second Wildcat basketball player to win the award in the past five years.
Brandon Knight took the honor in 2010.
Andrew Wiggins won the award last year.
This is obviously a nice personal accolade for Towns, but more than that it's a reminder of just how gifted Kentucky's roster will be in the 2014-15 season. The 7-foot-1 center is slotted fifth in the Class of 2014 247Sports composite rankings and one of four incoming freshmen ranked in the top 25. Still, there's no guarantee Towns will even start this season because of the presence of junior Willie Cauley-Stein and freshmen Dakari Johnson and Marcus Lee.
It's also why UK is ranked No. 1 in the preseason Top 25 (and one).
