Kentucky's Goodwin entering draft while Cauley-Stein and Wiltjer return
Kentucky announced on Monday that Archie Goodwin is entering the NBA Draft while Kyle Wiltjer and Willie Cauley-Stein will return to school for at least another season.
"I'm excited that Willie and Kyle have decided to return for next season," said UK coach John Calipari said. "When we talk about a players-first program, our goal is for each player to reach his dreams. Willie and Kyle believe it is in their best interest to return to Kentucky next season to achieve those dreams, and I fully support their decisions."
Goodwin led Kentucky in scoring this season as a freshman but was still mostly disappointing.
Even so, DraftExpress.com projects him as the 18th pick.
The return of Wiltjer for his junior year and Cauley-Stein for his sophomore year -- combined with the addition of a recruiting class that ranks first nationally -- should put the Wildcats in a position to possibly be ranked No. 1 next preseason. It remains officially undetermined what freshmen Nerlens Noel and Alex Poythress will do. But Noel is the projected No. 1 pick and practically guaranteed to follow Goodwin into the NBA Draft. Poythress' path is less clear, though he's also a projected top-20 pick.
Kentucky on Monday stated only that those announcements will come at a later date.
