Louisville's Chris Jones out with sprained wrist, status unclear
Louisville could be without Chris Jones for the next three games, as the point guard is out with a sprained wrist.
Louisville point guard Chris Jones could miss up to three games with a sprained wrist, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Thursday night.
Jones told the paper he might be out three games, although the school has not made a determination on his status yet. He was seen with a brace on Thursday night at a team event.
U of L spokesman Kenny Klein said the team considers Jones “day-to-day” and would have more information on his injury today.
Jones, a 5-foot-10 junior college transfer, is averaging 14.9 points and 2.6 assists in his first season with the Cardinals. He is coming off a 19-point performance against UL-Lafayette last weekend.
If Jones does indeed miss three games, he would be out for contests against Western Kentucky, Missouri State and Florida International. Head coach Rick Pitino has options at that position if he needs to look elsewhere. Shooting guard Russ Smith has the ability to slide over to the point, while freshman Terry Rozier is a supremely talented playmaker and could see more minutes.
Louisville is 6-1 and ranked No. 6. The Cardinals play Kentucky on Dec. 28 -- and yes, that falls after the three-game estimate.
