Manhattan has placed Steve Masiello on leave while Kentucky reviews his degree status, the school announced on Wednesday.

"Masiello is currently in the process of reviewing his degree status with the University of Kentucky," the statement read. "Manhattan College has placed Masiello on leave while he completes this process with the University."

Masiello was set to leave Manhattan for the head coaching position at South Florida, but a discrepancy in his background check caused an agreed-upon deal to fall apart. On his resume, Masiello indicated that he graduated from Kentucky, when in fact he finished his four years in Lexington without a degree.

Both Masiello and South Florida had agreed on a five-year deal worth more than $1 million a year, as first reported by CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish.
