NAU transfer Dewayne Russell heading to Grand Canyon?
Dewayne Russell was one of the most prolific scorers on the transfer market, and reports have him heading to Grand Canyon.
UPDATE: Sources close to Northern Arizona indicated that it's not a done deal. The school did not release Russell to Grand Canyon, meaning any contact between the two parties could be considered a violation. NAU agreed to release Russell to everyone who isn't on next year's schedule -- the two teams play in 2014-15.
Dan Majerle has a tough task as the head coach of Grand Canyon, guiding the Antelopes into Division-I basketball.
But he will have some more help next season, as Northern Arizona transfer Dewayne Russell decided on Saturday to make Grand Canyon his next stop.
The news was first reported by Scout.com.
Russell was one of the best scorers in the Big Sky Conference as a freshman, averaging 14.4 points and 3.2 assists – including six separate games of at least 20 points. He left Northern Arizona right before the season began in early November.
Interesting twist to this situation: Northern Arizona beat Grand Canyon on Saturday, 63-61.
