Notre Dame's Jack Cooley proposes to girlfriend at team banquet
Jack Cooley put an exclamation point on a great individual season by proposing to his girlfriend at a team banquet.
Jack Cooley has never seemed unsure of himself on the basketball court. After all, the burly Cooley was 6-foot-9, 250 pounds and one of the best rebounders in the country.
He was named to the All-Big East first team, and was one of only 14 players to average a double-double this past season.
So what caused Cooley to be shaky on Wednesday night at Notre Dame's team banquet?
He proposed to his girlfriend. And she said yes.
Cooley, who pointed out his 70-percent clip from the foul line this past year, said there was a 30-percent chance his speech could “go horribly wrong” when he walked up on stage.
“How did I get through this day?” Cooley said, according to Notre Dame’s 247 Sports site. “How did I get through Portsmouth? Agents, NBA and then I had to go get a ring. I had a lot on my plate. I got the ring here; I got it [Tuesday].”
Thanks everyone for the congratulations! Man was I nervous!— Jack Ryan Cooley (@JackCooligan45) April 18, 2013
Cooley, who spent four days last weekend at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament for senior NBA draft prospects, also was named the team’s MVP at the banquet.
