PHOTO: Andrew Wiggins makes the cover of Sports Illustrated
College hoops gets SI's cover treatment only about four times per year these days. One of those is the preview issue, and Wiggins shares the space with two Jayhawk legends.
It's rare that an incoming freshmen in any college sport makes the cover of Sports Illustrated -- but then again, Andrew Wiggins is a rare commodity in college basketball. The Wiggins Hype Machine has been humming basically since the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2013 pledged to Kansas in the spring. But with college basketball's regular season now officially less than a month away from starting, Wiggins is really starting to get massive amounts of pub.
We were the first national outlet to peg him as the preseason Player of the Year. Here's why. Wiggins has also received national attention from other outlets, and now comes his first cover on Sports Illustrated -- but remember, he was beat out by more than a year by fellow freshman phenom Jabari Parker, who's getting ready at Duke.
For Wiggins and Parker, the lights are only going to get hotter. It's going to be a great season of college basketball, but I am wondering what trajectory those two players will take, and if they'll run parallel to each other.
Oh, and the iPad version for the SI cover is pretty cool, too. More information on the story/photo shoot can be found at RockChalkBlog as well.
