Reaction from around the country on Friday's huge commitments
What is everyone saying about Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, Stanley Johnson and Cliff Alexander's commitments? Come and see. Reactions vary.
It was a wild Friday in college basketball, specifically on the recruiting front. Many were saying there was never before a day like this, with so many elite prospects choosing their schools on the same day, and essentially within 30 minutes of each other.
Center Jahlil Okafor and point guard Tyus Jones -- who don't even attend the same high school -- were a package deal. They chose Duke. Cliff Alexander, a big man out of Illinois, bypassed the Illini (notice the hat fake-out above) and went with Kansas. Stanley Johnson, a top-10 player/small forward from California, selected Arizona.
They'll all play next season in college basketball. As the frenzy unfolded, Twitter did its thing with reactions. Some of the commentary that stood out is below.
Kinda wish college basketball commitments were more like Harry Potter, where the hat gets to decide.— SB Nation (@sbnation) November 15, 2013
@SethDavisHoops Biggest announcement day since I've been in the industry— Evan Daniels (@EvanDanielsFOX) November 15, 2013
Kansas beat Duke in hoops Tuesday. Duke won far more important battle today, landing best package deal, Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, in years— Eric Prisbell (@EricPrisbell) November 15, 2013
Duke able to overcome its reputation as a football school to land Okafor and Jones. Impressive.— Jim Young (@ACCSports) November 15, 2013
With the addition of Okafor and Jones, Duke now has the No. 1 recruiting class in 2014.— Evan Daniels (@EvanDanielsFOX) November 15, 2013
Duke. Sharpie.— Seth Davis (@SethDavisHoops) November 15, 2013
This is the greatest day of Jahlil Okafor's life. But wait until he finds out he has to change his last name to Plumlee.— Thomas Beisner (@thomasbeisner) November 15, 2013
Very well could be the case. RT @cjmoore4 Your 2014-15 preseason No. 1.... Duke.— Eye on College BBall (@EyeOnCBB) November 15, 2013
So let's see one week into season, we have our preseason favorite. The world is silly.— Dana O'Neil (@ESPNDanaOneil) November 15, 2013
It's also the first time #Duke has landed ESPN's No. 1 overall recruit.— Laura Keeley (@laurakeeley) November 15, 2013
Jahlil Okafor has the capability to be a true big man unlike anything Duke—and college hoops—has seen in many years.— Matt Norlander (@MattNorlander) November 15, 2013
A few tweeting me “Anthony Davis,” which is totally fair. What I mean: Okafor a trad big man w/ all facets. Davis was a game-changing alien— Matt Norlander (@MattNorlander) November 15, 2013
I laughed. RT @AggerPack: k better be careful. If he gets too much talent, he might forget how to coach. Like Roy and cal did— Joe Ovies (@joeovies) November 15, 2013
at this rate #SFBatKid will choose either Duke or KU too— Doug Gottlieb (@GottliebShow) November 15, 2013
So brutal to Illinois fans. Yikes. RT @MattNorlander Alexander grabbed, then dropped, the Illinois hat. That was cold-blooded.— Ryan Fagan (@ryanfagan) November 15, 2013
Cliff Alexander just trolled Illinois! http://t.co/k9ve6MI8Cv— SB Nation GIF (@SBNationGIF) November 15, 2013

For years, when I've talked about UI recruiting w/ my dad, he's always said, "I don't know why you pay attention to that crap." Dad=Smart.— Will Leitch (@williamfleitch) November 15, 2013
I don't envy anyone who has to interview high school players on live television.— Nicole Auerbach (@NicoleAuerbach) November 15, 2013
What a disastrous day for Illinois hoop losing commit Q Snyder and then two Chicago bigs.— Kevin McNamara (@KevinMcNamara33) November 15, 2013
Top Chicago b-ball recruit punks Illinois while declaring for Duke. When are we going to put an end to this garbage? http://t.co/BVKRRAv6xX— Tom Oates (@TomOatesWSJ) November 15, 2013
Stanley Johnson was one of my favorite players to cover in the class of 2014. Great kid. He's next to announce.— Jeff Borzello (@jeffborzello) November 15, 2013
This is kinda fun. We should do this all day long. All top 100 recruits. Someone can come out w/ school name in body paint.— Rush the Court (@rushthecourt) November 15, 2013
Kept hearing Kansas, but it's crowded at the 5-spot now. RT @EConnection216: Do you know where Myles Turner is leaning towards signing with?— Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) November 15, 2013
Remember when Coach K was against recruiting one-and-dones? So does every college coach in the country. And they miss it.— Ben Axelrod (@BenAxelrod) November 15, 2013
