Shaka Smart agrees to extension with VCU through 2023
Shaka Smart isn't going anywhere. The VCU head coach told CBSSports.com that he has agreed to a contract extension through 2023.
VCU coach Shaka Smart told CBSSports.com that he has agreed to an extension to remain with the Rams through 2023.
Smart turned down multiple jobs a year ago and has again spurned a high-major opportunity, this time with UCLA.
"For us to be able to keep Coach Smart when a few really impressive institutions with great tradition had interest is a huge credit to him and VCU," VCU athletic director Ed McLaughlin told CBSSports.com.
The news was first reported by SI.com.
Smart, 35, led VCU to the Final Four in 2011, and has taken the Rams to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
