Jerry Tarkanian is headed to the Hall of Fame, a source told CBSSports. "Tark the Shark" led UNLV to the national title in 1990, but had his share of run-ins with the NCAA.
Jerry Tarkanian is headed to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Sources told CBSSports.com that Tarkanian, who is a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the first time, has been chosen among 12 finalists for the honor.
Tarkanian, 82, coached at Long Beach State, UNLV and Fresno. He drew the ire of the NCAA over the course of his career and had 49 games vacated while at Fresno and six while at Long Beach State.
Tarkanian led UNLV to the national title in 1990 and also took the Runnin' Rebels to the Final Four in 1977, 1987 and 1991. He finished his career with a 729-201 record.
