South Carolina gets Villanova transfer Tyrone Johnson eligible
Frank Martin's Gamecocks team will have a tough year ahead, but this news helps.
Second-year South Carolina coach Frank Martin announced Saturday morning that junior guard Tyrone Johnson will play this season.
Johnson played for Villanova last year, but transferred mid-season and only played in an exhibition game for the Wildcats in 2012-13. Johnson received the waiver from the NCAA just hours before South Carolina's first game of the season, against Longwood.
The 6-3 shooting guard averaged 3.3 points in 18 minutes during the 2011-12 season for Villanova. South Carolina finished last season 14-18.
