South Carolina State coach Tim Carter resigns

South Carolina State coach Tim Carter has resigned and will be replaced by associate head coach Murray Garvin.

Athletic director Charlene Johnson confirmed the news to CBSSports.com and said that Garvin, in his second season at the school, "is the head coach until we move further."

"We're not starting an immediate search," she told CBSSports.com.

Carter was in his sixth season with the Bulldogs. The team was 4-16 this season and 0-8 in MEAC play.

Garvin was previously an assistant at Winston-Salem State and Charleston Southern. He was also a head coach and athletic director in the junior college ranks.
