UMass loses second-leading scorer for season with torn ACL
UMass had high hopes for this season. Derek Kellogg has a veteran group, but the Minutemen just lost one of their top players after guard Jesse Morgan suffered a torn ACL late last week.

UMass was supposed to challenge for one of the top spots in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Now that'll be more difficult without the services of junior scoring guard Jesse Morgan. The 6-foot-4 Morgan is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.
The initial diagnosis was a severe sprain after the injury occurred early in the loss to Saint Louis on Thursday, but then Morgan was re-evaluated and it was discovered that he tore his ACL.
Morgan was second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game and was shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc. UMass is 11-4 and 1-1 in the A-10.
The loss of Morgan means that Derek Kellogg will need someone to step up on the offensive end. Point guard Chaz Williams is averaging 15.8 points per game, but Raphiael Putney has been disappointing so far, averaging just 6.7 points and 4.8 boards per game. Veteran Freddie Riley will move into the starting lineup in place of Morgan.
The Minutemen will face Duquesne at home on Thursday night.
