UNLV mails 86 letters to top-five junior Zimmerman -- in one day
Stephen Zimmerman receives a lot of mail. But UNLV's effort on Wednesday might have stole the show when it comes to recruiting letters.
Stephen Zimmerman is one of the top players in the class of 2015. The 6-foot-11 center from Bishop Gorman (Nev.) is No. 3 in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the junior class.
Not surprisingly, he gets a good amount of recruiting mail from various schools.
On Wednesday night, Zimmerman tweeted a photo of his mail – for the day.
There’s a couple of envelopes from Miami, one from North Carolina, Kansas, Indiana, Baylor, Michigan, NC State, Minnesota and LSU.
And 86 from UNLV.
That's right -- almost 90 envelopes from the Runnin’ Rebels. That would be a lot for a normal person in a month. It would be a crazy amount for a week. But for one day? Eighty-six pieces of mail in one day?
I’m not going to sit here and say that UNLV shouldn’t have done it or that it’s too much mail to send to a recruit – it’s a heck of a way to separate yourself from the pack. If he received one letter each from North Carolina, Kansas, Indiana and UNLV, what are the chances the Rebels would have been the ones to stand out? Maybe not so great. But sending 86 letters in one day gets attention – and Zimmerman clearly agreed, sending out a tweet about it.
Louisville visited Zimmerman on Wednesday, while John Calipari and Kentucky are making the trip on Friday.
But the winner of the week might be UNLV.
