Sources told CBSSports.com on Tuesday that Southern Miss officials have offered their coaching vacancy to Stephen F. Austin's Brad Underwood. The same sources added that, barring a surprise, Underwood plans to accept and become Donnie Tyndall's replacement.

The sources stressed nothing is signed yet.

But an announcement could come as soon as Wednesday, they said.

Underwood just completed his first season as a Division I head coach by going 32-3 overall and 18-0 in the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament by defeating VCU. Underwood won the 2014 Joe B. Hall Coach of the Year award, which is presented annually to the top first-year coach in college basketball.

CBSSports.com reported last week that Underwood was USM's target.
