VIDEO: Michael Jordan's first points/game at UNC in 1981
This is a cool watch. Jordan in a North Carolina jersey, playing his first game of college basketball.
This is a nice treat on a Friday morning. Ever wonder how Michael Jordan's start at North Carolina played out? It's on YouTube, no surprise. So we thought it'd be a good little late-summer treat to offer up some nostalgic video.
Unnatural as it sounds, young MJ was called "Mike Jordan" when he first got to Carolina. The Heels played Kansas at the Charlotte Coliseum on Nov. 28, 1981. That's right, two bluebloods like Kansas and Carolina not only faced each other to start the season -- but the season didn't start until the end of November. Can you imagine having to wait that long in today's sporting culture? I'm already starving for hoops and we still have almost three months to go before the start of the season on Nov. 8.
Anyway, Jordan's first shot didn't fall, but the second did. UNC went on to win 74-67, Jordan putting up 12 on 50 percent shooting. It's always fun to hop into the time machine and see how stuff from sports' past played out. Here's a longer video of parts of the game.
