VIDEO: Murray State basketball a source of pride that binds the town
Murray State basketball is a proud mid-major program that is very connected to its tiny town. How connected? Check the video for proof.
Came upon this and had to share. If you're a fiend for college hoops and already don't know what to do with your nights -- aside from finding/attempting to find a social life again, like I am, and failing -- then you'll probably like this video as much as I did.
Murray State has one of the proudest traditions of any mid-major school. It's made 15 NCAA tournaments, and in the past 25 years has not gone more than four seasons between bids in the Big Dance. The program has boosted the careers of Mark Gottfried, Mick Cronin, Billy Kennedy and now Steve Prohm. It's produced six draft picks, soon to be seven when Isaiah Canaan is chosen in late June.
The town of Murray, Ky., is built around the hoops program, and a lot of people don't realize that. This piece from Charlie Pierce comes to mind. The video above is just a snapshot of Murray State's season, how it ended, what the program does to connect itself to the people of Murray.
Feel-good stuff, and especially this week, I think we could all use it.
