VIDEO: One-handed baller Zach Hodskins has D-I dreams

The one-handed basketball player is an uplifting story we see come up from time to time. Most recently, Kevin Laue at Manhattan made waves and inspiration when he earned a scholarship a few years back despite only possessing one hand.

By the looks of it, Laue could be succeeded by a player named Nate Hodskins. The 17-year-old from Milton, Ga., can flat-out ball. He's not new to the scene, either, just slowly gaining more acclaim for his game as he gets closer to his senior season. Most recently, he was featured in a piece on FOX 8 in Cleveland.

“I love to see people watch me for the first time, just their look of shock on their face, it’s a lot of fun,” Hodskins says in the video linked above.

Born without some of his left arm, doctors believe the umbilical cord might have done damage to it while in the womb, cutting off circulation and debilitating the fetus in the process.

Hodskins traveled to Ohio this week to speak on behalf of the Make a Swish Foundation. He's also the subject of an upcoming documentary on his trip through high school, hopefully on the way to a Division I scholarship.

Cleveland's News-Herald also chronicled Hodskins' trip.

One bystander at Mentor on Wednesday simply asked Hodskins if he could watch him tie his shoes. Such things bothered Hodskins once upon a time.
"Now that I'm older, it doesn't really bother me," he said of the inquisitiveness. "It's just curiosity."
By showing how he plays basketball, by showing how he ties his shoes, by showing and telling how he lives his life, Hodskins hopes through the Make a Swish Foundation he can touch lives. He is spending a portion of his trip to Northeast Ohio going to area recreation centers, including St. Stanislaus, and talking to youths. He and others will be passing out basketballs, courtesy of the Make a Swish Foundation, and sharing stories they hope can inspire others.

It's a pretty great story, one I'd love to see continue at the college level -- which it will. We're just not sure yet what level that will be.

Enjoy even more video of Hodskins in action. His ball-handling is fantastic and, all things considered, he's not short on aggressive play on the court. I'm gonna go toss some jumpers now because this is damn inspiring.
