What-to-know tourney previews: Western Athletic Conference
Can Louisiana Tech regain its swagger?
1. Can Louisiana Tech regain its swagger?
Mike White's team came out of nowhere this season and was picked to finish in the middle of the pack. However, the Bulldogs ran off 16 consecutive wins in league play and put themselves in the discussion for at an-large bid before dropping their final two games this past week at New Mexico State and Denver.
2. Is this definitely a one-bid league?
One week ago, I would have said Louisiana Tech could get into the field even if it loses in the championship contest. However, now this is a one-bid league after the Bulldogs slipped up twice down the stretch. Denver goes in as the co-favorite, along with the Bulldogs. But neither have the resume to warrant at at-large bid.
3. Can anyone else win this besides Denver and Louisiana Tech -- who shared the league crown?
New Mexico State has beaten both Denver and Louisiana Tech this season. The Aggies have reeled off wins in 15 of their last 17 and have plenty of balance. Marvin Menzies' team is a legitimate threat to win the tourney.
Schedule: All games at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas: March 12 (first round); March 14 (quarterfinals); March 15 (semifinals); March 16 (championship).
Title game: Saturday, March 16, at 11 p.m. ET (at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas).
