College basketball rankings: UCLA faces Arizona, both top 10 in Top 25 (and 1)
The No. 7 Wildcats play host to the No. 9 Bruins Saturday
Arizona and UCLA have combined to win 11 straight games — the most recent of which for both came Thursday and set the stage for Saturday’s showdown at 8:15 p.m. ET inside the McKale Center. That’s when and where two teams still in contention for No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament will meet again. That the game will be played in prime time on the East Coast will create additional exposure.
Which is great for the Pac-12.
UCLA-Arizona will feature three possible lottery picks in Lonzo Ball (UCLA), TJ Leaf (UCLA) and Lauri Markkanen (Arizona) — the last of whom got 18 points and seven rebounds in last month’s game at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins will have to shoot better than the 32.3 percent they shot from 3-point range in that 96-85 loss to have any chance of beating Arizona on the road. If they don’t, Sean Miller’s Wildcats will secure at least a share of their third Pac-12 title in a four-year span.
Arizona is No. 7 in the Top 25 (and one).
UCLA is No. 9.
